I just signed up to take the Praxis 2 in order to student teach next spring. It's crazy to think that I'm getting closer to my profession.
Can't believe I'm actually going to be a teacher soon. It seems like yesterday when I was in school thinking how long it would be till I'm a teacher in my own classroom. It's coming up quick!

I'm still young, therefore I think I know all the lingo and phrases that teenagers and kids still use. But this past weekend, when I was babysitting, I was proved wrong. Did you know that JERK means "junior educated rich kid?" What does that even mean?! Why can't jerk just mean jerk?

I love my pediatrician and I don't think it has hit me that I have to go to an adult doctor. My childhood is really ending.
On September 28, I went to visit a school devoted to special education students. I received a position there as a volunteer which will give me great experience and something amazing to put on my resume. I find it crazy that I am taking time to go to a school to help without getting paid. When in the past, I would have never done anything without money.
After being somewhat of a kid again at home, it's so weird making the transition to being a young adult and being on my own at school.
I'm teaching my parents how to do things when they taught me so much.
I think it's so weird that I am considered old to the kids I babysit. Especially since when I was younger I looked up to people my age and thought that they were old, so it is crazy that the role is reversed. Now that I am older, I think it's so weird that I am called old. When I asked my campers how old they thought I was they gave numbers such as 30. They then asked if I was married, had kids, or if i lived alone.

During the field experience, I had to be a student and observe and learn from the teacher of the classroom, as well as be a teacher to the students in the class.
On September 25, I began my observation field experience for the semester. I couldn't believe that after only 4 hours of being in the classroom I was so tired! Can't imagine what it's going to be like when I have to stay all day.

Here is when I started tweeting things about how I am on the verge of transforming from a child into an adult. My dad was worried about how dark my street is and bought me pepper spray. Even though I am on my own, my dad still cares and worries about me --- as expected.
I noticed things that I never did before. I never knew there was a barn out there!!
I wanted to document a picture of my view for the day and how simple and quiet it was.
At camp, my job is to take care of a large group of girls. I take them to their activities, make sure their safe, and make sure they have a good time. Even though I do clean up and make sure I take care of the camp grounds, I have never mopped the floors in the dining hall, or anywhere on camp. When I was told that I had to mop, it really hit me that it was so different in the off season.
The company that was at camp that day was from a hispanic school. Therefore, I was obviously not accustomed to hearing people talk in different languages at camp.
Obviously since camp is for children, I was not accustomed to seeing adults ride on pedal karts and having so much fun!
At this point, I started feeling really lonely. If I am ever bored at camp I go find my friends. Additionally, when I think about camp, I think about my camp friends that I have such amazing friends with. It felt so incomplete to be at a place without the people that make it so amazing.
Again, noticing the peacefulness.
Continuing to notice the peacefulness. I am used to the sound of yelling children, splashes from the pool, announcements from the office, and people shouting my name. I never really noticed the nature of camp.
Making comparisons between the camp season, and the off-season.
I am still not used to being so peaceful at camp without being bothered to go somewhere.
Since camp is a place for kids, there is obviously no smoking. However, on this day, there was a group of adults renting the camp for a retreat and they were smoking.
During the summer, I am always so busy. I am either playing or directing my group of campers, talking to my director and boss, running to deliver a message, or talking with my friends. This was the first time I was at camp with nothing to do. Since I was in charge of working pedal karts and no one arrived yet, I was just able to sit and relax, something I am not used to doing at camp.
The one thing I was used to about this day was it was nice out and the sun was shining.
In the camp season, whenever I enter the grounds of camp, there are running kids, vans dropping of campers, and staff members getting to work. On this day, it was empty and I was not used to it.

TYPO: "WARS" WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY "WAWA"
During the camp season, if i ever go to the wawa, right by camp, I am guaranteed to see a co-worker. This was the first time I went to that wawa without seeing someone else in a Tall Pines Staff shirt. |
For the past 8 years, I have been attending Tall Pines Day Camp. The first two years, I was a CIT. The 4 years after that I was a junior counselor, and the past 2 summers, I was a senior counselor. I only attend camp for orientation in May and then 8 weeks during the summer to work. On September 21, I went to camp to work a picnic/retreat. This is only the second time I worked a retreat and it is only because I am desperate for money. I am visiting my best friend in London in November and used all my money on the flight. I need money to spend!
