Since we have been working on our collaborative group project, I have gotten a better idea about what we are doing. The meeting with Professor Kopp really helped as well! I thought it was really interesting that we were able to meet with Laura through skype. Did you like doing that? Do you understand where we are heading with the project. I am also excited that you guys will record your next meeting, since I will not be able to make it. We may be able to put this in our project someone! Does everyone know what they are supposed to be working on for the project?
I just read Joseph Campbell's The Impact of Science on Myth and found it to be very interesting. I love greek mythology and ancient stories of how our world is created and I find it sad that scientists are saying these are not true. Of course, I know they are stories but what else can you believe if these are the stories that have always been told? As for religion, I am Jewish. I do not attend temple or read the Torah but I do celebrate the holidays. Campbell explained that with the progress and development of science, religion should not be as strong. However, it is. Why do you think religion is still here if scientist are against it? I found this article to open my mind up to a different view of thinking. What did you think about the article?
This past week, the class was directed to read "Disclosing New Worlds: Intro." Honestly, I am unsure of how it relates to the course as of now but do have some guesses. The introduction was labeled "History or the End of History?" The article explained how the history of feminism advanced throughout history. I can only assume that the other chapters in "Disclosing New Worlds" will talk about how technology is changing the world and it's history. What do you think about what the article has to do with technology?
The article goes on to discuss that Cartesianism, or modernism, live in a non-historical way. We try to develop easy ways of dealing with ourselves and with things. How do you think we do this? I believe it is from the use of technology in our lives. Instead of just going to the library to do research, we go on the computer. However, we also use the computer for social media, games, and other guilty pleasures. |
