I just read Joseph Campbell's The Impact of Science on Myth and found it to be very interesting. I love greek mythology and ancient stories of how our world is created and I find it sad that scientists are saying these are not true. Of course, I know they are stories but what else can you believe if these are the stories that have always been told? As for religion, I am Jewish. I do not attend temple or read the Torah but I do celebrate the holidays. Campbell explained that with the progress and development of science, religion should not be as strong. However, it is. Why do you think religion is still here if scientist are against it? I found this article to open my mind up to a different view of thinking. What did you think about the article?
I feel like religion is still around because religion is the basis of everything. Even though scientists may be against it, somehow everything can and is related back to religion. Religion is interpreted as fact, that is why society is so controlled by religion. I agree with Carly when she said she finds it sad that scientists say the stories are not true. It is what society has known and grown up to hear, yet scientists don't agree. My family is very religious so to think of the idea that religion shouldn't be strong in society is a disturbing idea.

I think regardless of how many scientists are in the world that believe in evolution and completely disregard any religious aspect, religion will always be in the forefront because it has, and probably will continue to be, the most widely universal belief in the world. People have their own beliefs. That is also why there are so many different religions and different beliefs. You will never be able to get every single person to agree on one thing, as we can also observe through the political debates that are going on right now. There will always be people who go against religion but, like Drew said in class, they still have a belief in something, and that makes it a religion.

I believe the reason religion is around today is that it provides families with a framework for good morals, as well as comforts the believer within a community of people who share those beliefs. Religion is a powerful tool for maintaining order and organizing people to do something, such as the Catholic Church with the Ten Commandments. I think the reason why people tend to believe religion over science is because the scientific explanations do not really inspire a person.
